Many developing countries, as well as rural areas of developed nations, do not have immediate access to expensive medical imaging equipment such as MR or CT. As highlighted in a recent study [8], ultrasound (US) imaging is particularly well-suited for those underserved areas, since it is low-cost, versatile and non-invasive. Additionally, medical care in emergency vehicles and military field operations may benefit from US when performing first care.
